How Does the Commission Process Work?
Intro Phone Call (or meeting, if you’re local!)
You can begin the process by filling out the contact form above, or shooting me an email at lleonard@gmail.com. First, I like to schedule a quick phone call (or meetup over coffee, if you’re local to the Marietta, GA area) to discuss your project. You can send me a photo/photos and I’ll tell you if they’ll make a suitable painting reference or if I’ll need additional images or information. Be sure to let me know if you have any special requests - colors or other elements you’d like to include, background preferences, things you’d like to change from your photo reference, etc. We’ll also discuss the time frame for final delivery.
Payment
Once we’ve ironed out all the details, I’ll ask for a downpayment of 50%. Pricing for a watercolor on paper starts at $2.50/square inch* (rushes, matting/framing, and shipping cost extra).
8”x10” watercolor on paper starts at $200
11”x14” watercolor on paper starts at $385
16”x20” watercolor on paper starts at $800
* Email newsletter subscribers receive a significant discount on commissions - you can sign up at the top of this page!
Proof
Before I begin painting, I’ll email or text you a pencil sketch to review. This is the best time to make any changes - due to the nature of watercolor, it’s difficult (and sometimes impossible) to make major revisions once painting begins!
Final Approval & Delivery
Once the painting is complete, I’ll email or text you a photo for final approval. I hope you’ll be absolutely delighted with your painting, and I’ll do my best to accommodate any changes at this point, but as mentioned above, watercolor can be an unforgiving medium! If for any reason you’re unhappy with the painting and it cannot be fixed, I will either repaint it for you, or refund your payment.
Once approved, I’d love to deliver your commission in person, if you’re local! Otherwise, I’ll package it up securely and ship it directly to you.
