Stella Portrait (age 4)

A progress shot, and the completed painting.

This is, I think, my favorite painting of 2024, so I figured it needed its own space on the blog! It’s a little 8” x 8” watercolor study of my daughter, Stella. I sketched her while she was sitting next to me on the couch watching something (probably Frozen, her favorite at this age) on TV, then painted it in 15-20 minute increments (while my kiddos were napping or during a lunch break) over a couple of days. I love how it turned out, and I think it’s so representative of this season of life that I’m currently in - busy raising two little ones, working a full-time job, and trying to make just a little bit of time for creativity… with some effort, every once in a while inspiration hits and it all just comes together magically!
